The Challenge
The Urban Institute has been doing foundational policy research for half a century, but the site was a list of text links that buried a treasure trove of amazing content. The institute needed to better amplify its expertise, making the site a primary source for policymakers and influencers, while staying true to its nonpartisan reputation.
The Solution
We wanted to give visitors a magazine-like exposure to the Institute’s experts and research publications. To that end, we redesigned the site with a clean, intuitive information architecture that encourages discovery and sharing of digestible content, interactive tools, and multimedia. We fortified the infrastructure throughout, rebuilding templates with our signature polish. A robust global search function and beautiful data visualization further enhance the user journey.
The Result
The redesign transformed a text-heavy site into a showcase for extraordinary research and researchers. It’s now a spirited experience that experts and casual users alike can dive into easily, and staff can update easily as well.
